Meet Mr. Brown, Superintendent
I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and family to the Sidney Cowboy and Cowgirl community. I have truly enjoyed my first few months with the school and my wife and I feel extremely lucky to be part of such a great community. My wife Tonya and myself are both native Nebraskans, both of us coming from small communities. We are blessed to have a blended family with 8 children. Ranging from oldest to youngest we have daughter Marissa and Brandon of Omaha, NE, daughter Taylor and Christopher of South Carolina, daughter Katie and Lex of Norfolk, NE, daughter Emily and Blake of Norfolk, NE, daughter Skyler and Donovan of Osmond, NE, daughter Alex and Jakob of Norfolk, NE, son Logan and Ashlyn of Omaha, NE, and Haley of Creighton, NE. We are also very blessed to have 8 grandchildren with one more expected in a few months. They range from 1-8 years old. In our free time we like to stay very active with family and friends spending as much time outside as possible. Summers are spent boating and fishing, while I am also an avid hunter.
I have been blessed with a very diverse background, giving me an ability to understand where people are coming from. After high school I attended Chadron State College for one year, then enlisted in the US Army. I was able to see many places and different cultures during my five years in the military. After completing my military service, I was able to own and operate my own home improvement business for 7 years while also attending college. I graduated from University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1999 with a BA in Business Education and Diversified Occupations, then again in 2007 with a MA in School Administration 7-12 Principal. I furthered my education at Wayne State College with a MA in School Administration PK-8 Principal in 2011, and Specialist Degree School Superintendent in 2015.
My career in education has spanned the last 25 years with 5 years teaching, 12 years as Principal, and the past 8 years as a Superintendent. Education was a family profession, as my late father was a retired Superintendent, my mother was a Special Education Aide for 35 years, my late brother was a military instructor for 12 years, and one of my other brothers was a teacher for 15 years. I take great passion in preparing students for their futures, and helping to mentor teachers into the best educators they can be. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, with the belief that we learn through our experiences. Please take the time to stop by the office, stop me in town, catch me at a school event, or grab a cup of coffee to get better acquainted.
